Composite Bat Rolling
Composite Bat Rolling is the process of “rolling” your composite bat to make it more effective, gaining more distance.
How does Bat Rolling work?
The bat is placed between two rollers and then pressure is applied so that as the bat passes through the rollers the bat’s fibers are stretched out. This causes the fibers to become more flexible which greatly improves the bat’s trampoline effect when the ball hits it, resulting in increased batted ball speed and distance. It will make the sweet spot bigger and much more consistent as well.
From the Wikipedia website about Bat Rolling:
Bat rolling was started in the ” Composite Era ” late 1999 to early 2000. It really expanded between 2002 through out the world. The bat rolling is a process, that simply breaks the composite fibers and resin type glues that different manufaturers use; to let the composite fibers expand and work in a trampoline effect. It is not illegal, the bat eventually does that by its own. Bat rolling simply speeds the “breaking in process”. Players in Softball or Baseball choose to do this to get the most out of the bat, right out of the wrapper. Before the a child over grows the bat or the bat is simply worn out, this process is popular done. It is said that it was started in Southern California. In Oxnard to be exact by a 17 year old with an english wheel machine. That lead to further improvements in a machine alike the english wheel. It has bigger plastic rollers to roll the bat horizontal or perpendicular. “Dr. Chepe” is one of the pioneers in this revolution that has the Softball and Baseball players pushing their game an extra 20+ feet.
