Roll my Composite Bat?

I saw this Craigslist’s add today, about Composite Bats:

*************************************************************************

Composite Bat Rolling – Softball Baseball Fastpitch – $30

BAT ROLLING is a process that can add incredible pop and distance to any softball or baseball bat. Everyone knows that bats get hotter after about 500-800 hits. The trouble is, by the time you have put that many hits on the bat it is well on it’s way to being worn out. By rolling your bat you can enjoy the bat’s maximum potential from the very first swing. The bat is placed between two rollers and then pressure is applied so that as the bat passes through the rollers the bat’s fibers are stretched out. This causes the fibers to become more flexible which greatly improves the bat’s trampoline effect when the ball hits it resulting in increased batted ball speed and distance. It will make the sweet spot bigger and much more consistent as well.

*************************************************************************

Now this is a service that I did not have a clue even existed, and had never occured to me. Very clever.

My only concern is to make sure that this process does not ruin my bat. There is a reason my I’m willing to pay good money for a high-performance composite bat, so having it destroyed by taking this shortcut is not one of my priorities.

What do you think of this?

  1. hey i dont know how i found your blog but i did ha but anyway i myself play alot of softball. what kind of league r u in? is it asa, utrip? what kind of bats r u thinkin about getting? as far as shaving a bat its not that bad u get more pop on it but the downfall is that if u or your teammates are hard hitters it will break faster and youll be out of cash.

  2. oats, thanks a lot for your comment.

I play what ever league I can find during spring, summer and fall. Anything in a 20 miles radius from my home is fair game :D

Yes, you are right about the bats… buying as a team may make sense, so when we break it, we all share the cost.

  3. Don’t worry about the bats breaking prematurely. If you are using the bat yourself for games then you will not see any loss in durability. I have 3 bats sent over to http://www.batrolling4u.com and I used 1 ASA and 1 USSSA bat last year for the entire year and no signs of breakage at all. I play over 100 games a year and from what I’ve found alot of guys aren’t rolling the bats correctly. http://www.batrolling4u.com did mine and I have sent many guys his way. He knows what he’s doing and you WON’T loose and durability.

  4. oh thats cool i play asa all he time so i have like 9 bats now. i didnt have any at this time last year. so just sayin if u buy a bat and u get serious youll get addicted to buyin bats cause youll always want to try different one. i have a good forum and website i go to to find good ones

  5. otis, what bats do you have?

John, what about you? what bats do you have?

  6. 26oz Easton SCN9 Stealth
    26oz 09 Easton Stealth SSR1
    29 oz Reebok Dictator
    28oz Demarini White Steel
    28 oz ASA Louisville Catalyst
    26oz Easton SCN8 FLEX
    30 oz ASA Rawlings Rush
    27 oz ASA Mizuno Frenzy
    28 oz 2007 Worth Mutant 98

  7. also rolling isnt actually that bad for em cause that does help but shaving them is what will make them break faster

  8. My opinion of rolling a bat is that it’s not cheating because it’s considered the same if you take 500 swings on that bat..
Does anyone know where I can get a blueprint for a bat rolling machine?

Otis What’s the name of the forum so that I can look up bats..

    Thanks

  9. As for the person with the Titan. My daughter was sent one as a replacement for a problem with a Catalyst. She did not like the bat. Couldn’t get it out of the infield. After only the 2nd tournament used, the bat cracked in half. It may be a problem with the bat. Was never rolled, as I just learned of this technique. I just sent the bat back for another replacement.

  10. does anyone have a comment on the rawlings Rush blue bat? I am thinking about getting it for a womans’ slopitch team, 24 oz.

currently i have a miken freak 98, but it seems too heavy: 27 oz.

If 200 – 300 pound men hit with a 26 oz bat, shouldn’t the women hit something lighter?

  11. Thanks for your comment, Faye.

Well, the answer to what is the best bat for somebody is … “it depends”.

It is a highly personal decision. I used to enjoy hitting with heavier bats, but lately I am being more effective (meaning: getting more hits) with lighter ones. I am not hitting that many home runs anymore, but I am fine with hitting singles and doubles every time at bat.

I don’t have a particular comment for the rush blue, but I would recommend you go to a store and try a few, to see how you feel with them (not only about the weight but also about the swing you get, the handle, etc.

Ah, and the miken freak? I think it is very nice… so you should be ok with selling it on ebay or craigslist and get something decent for it.

  12. I had my miken recoil balanced and my freak 98 rolled at prorollers.net i am very happy with the bats performance since getting them back. The sound is completely different and the ball deffinetly jumps off the bat faster, they did a great job, just my 2 cents on this subject

  13. You raised a great point. Stick to manufacturer’s specifications. Cold weather is not nice on your Composite Bat.

  14. We can roll your bats at bigdawgbatrolling.com if you would like to try the process out….feedback would say it works!
We are also giving away a new Easton CNT+ reissue just go to the website. Drawinf is Nov 15th

  15. Prorollers.net has terrible EBAY feedback(more than one cracked bat)… Fact! Check it out

  16. What29, thanx for the heads up on prorollers.net i have since sent them 3 bats and had no issues at all. They paid for everything, shipping both ways, insurance and tracking. I even saw all of my bats in their roller system. Thanx again for pointing me in the right direction

  17. Jake and what29, i have since used prorollers.net to roll my recoil maxload and love it.

admin, yes i agree, while cold weather is not as bad on composite bats as the older metal bats, it is still not advised to use below manufactures specs, just to avoid warranty issues.

  18. I’m on my first year of ASA softball but has played baseball my whole life. I have a Miken Maniac and a Reebok Dictator right now that are both 26oz. I was looking to buy a Miken Freak DST Maxload or an Easton Synergy speed. Which bat would you guys recommend and should I step up to a heavier oz? I’m 6 foot 240lbs.
